Exploring a Dissonance: A Qualitative Exploration of Students' and Faculty Perceptions of UME's Purposes

Help Us Improve Medical Education: We are researching the challenges of learning in medical school and invite both students and faculty to share their perspectives. Your feedback in a 60 minute Zoom interview will help us enhance the overall learning experience.

RESEARCH INFORMATION SHEET

You are being asked to voluntarily participate in a research study. We are doing this study to qualitatively explore the assumptions, expectations, and understanding of the purposes of UME programs by medical school faculty and medical students to understand alignments and incongruences between these population's descriptions. The findings will help faculty and administrators identify and understand areas for improvement in medical education. On an individual level, participants will receive an opportunity for self-reflection and a deeper understanding of their own undergraduate medical education experiences.

We are asking you to be in this study because you are or recently have been a medical student or a faculty member at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. If you agree, we will ask you to participate in an individual interview via zoom (or Microsoft Teams) for 60 minutes.

We will make an audio recording of the interview. We will store your information in ways we think are secure. We will store paper files in locked filing cabinets. We will store electronic files in computer systems with password protection and encryption. Only the de-identified transcribed data will be used for analysis of the content and the reports will be done in aggregate. Publications and presentations will not disclose your name. However, we cannot guarantee complete confidentiality.
